MPOWERD Build Your Own Luci STEM Kit Wins Esteemed Product Award
MPOWERD’s Build Your Own Luci (BYOL) has received a 2018 National Parenting Product Award (NAPPA) for Best STEM/Educational toy in children’s and family products. For nearly 30 years, NAPPA’s team of independent judges has worked together with parents and children to test and select the highest quality products for families to learn and grow together.
BYOL is MPOWERD’s first-ever STEM kit, designed as a fun, hands-on way to teach kids about clean energy and the power of the sun. BYOL allows kids to build their own, customized solar-powered Luci Light. The kit includes three modular disks, two USB cords, 16 LED lights (2 red, 2, green, 2 blue, and 10 white), and a transparent cover. BYOL also includes a 59-page booklet, with a quick start guide and more in-depth activities along with fun facts about the science and history of solar energy.
Educational institutions can also contact MPOWERD (impact@mpowerd.com) if they are interested in including the product in their curriculum. MPOWERD worked with MSU Denver to create a robust learning module whereby schools and programs can find a turnkey solution to early solar learning.
In general, every MPOWERD product sold supports the company’s mission to provide solar powered lights to those around the globe living without reliable access to electricity.
BYOL originated from the company’s realization that the next generation must be educated on clean forms of energy in order to protect our planet. “A US Climate Negotiator, back from the Paris Accords told us in no uncertain terms that the US must lead in the education of clean energy to protect the planet.,” comments patent holder and MPOWERD Founder John Salzinger.
CEO, Seungah Jeong, an avid supporter of early learning and co-patent holder, helped to bring BYOL to fruition. According to Seungah, “MPOWERD is on a mission to solve real-world resource needs with clean energy products, and as part of this, educating the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs on solar energy and technology is critical.”
Inspired by this great responsibility, MPOWERD created BYOL, so that all children can learn for themselves how solar power works.
MPOWERD is honored to be a 2018 NAPPA winner.
