To charge your Luci via solar, simply place the light in direct sunlight with the solar panel side facing upwards for a few hours (see product specs for charge time). The light can be placed inside or outside, as long as it’s in direct sunlight - meaning that there’s nothing blocking the sun’s rays from hitting the solar panel. Charging outside will be quicker than inside on your windowsill, for example, as the window blocks some of the light and slows down charging.
Pro tip: If the light is tilted slightly towards the sun (25º-35º), it can increase the charge time by ~20%!
To charge your light via USB, insert the USB cord provided into the USB port on the base panel, and then insert the other end into a USB outlet. Ensure both ends are firmly in position and check that the Battery Level Indicator lights are flashing - this means that the light is charging.
Direct sunlight means that the sun’s light is directly hitting the solar panel. For example, if you were standing outside under the sun with nothing obstructing you and the sun, then you would be in direct sunlight. If you were standing inside, you would be getting indirect sunlight but no direct rays from the sun. Solar panels always need direct sunlight to charge. If in doubt, think of it this way; if you were Luci and you were able to directly see the sun, then you would be in direct sunlight!
A single charge on our products range from 8-50 hours depending on the model. Please see the individual product section below for full information.
To inflate your light, firmly pinch the 2-way valve and blow into the nozzle until fully inflated. Push in the valve, and you’re all set!
To deflate, pull out the valve, firmly pinch the valve and simultaneously collapse towards the base.
Pro tip #1: When inflating, firmly pinch the valve and pull away from base. This will do 50% of the work for you before you get blowing.
Pro tip #2: Gently twist the light as you deflate for a flatter, more compact shape.
Nope. All of our products are solar powered and rechargeable, so no batteries are needed. No more searching the drawer for that second AA!

Yes, but it will charge at a slower rate than on a bright, clear day. As your Luci charges via the red and violet frequencies of visible light, the charge times will vary based on the UV index or overcast skies. Generally speaking, the higher the UV index, the faster the charge.
To put it another way, think of the solar panel in terms of your skin. If you went outside on a sunny day without sunscreen for a prolonged period, your skin would get sun burnt due to the sun’s rays directly hitting your skin. If you went outside on a cloudy day, you could still get burnt from the sun’s rays, however, the clouds are limiting the power of the rays coming into contact with your skin. So you would feel the effects of the sun’s rays whether it’s clear or cloudy; it’s just the effects are much stronger on a clear day. This analogy is based on someone not wearing adequate sunscreen, which is something we strongly advise against. Always wear sunscreen, people!
All of our products (excluding Luci Candle and Core) have a Battery Level Indicator which tells you how much power is left in the light. How the Battery Level Indicator appears on the product varies slightly depending on the model.
On our Inflatable lights, you can see how much power is left by simply clicking on the Battery Level Indicator button (the button with a lightning bolt). This will light up 1-3 light circles next to the button. 1 light indicates 0-20% power remaining, 2 lights indicate 21-60%, and 3 lights indicate that you have 61-100% battery power.
On our Mobile Charging lights, you can see how much power is left by clicking on the Battery Level Indicator button on the base. This will light up 1-4 light circles next to the button. 1 light indicates 0-20% power remaining, 2 lights indicate 21-40%, 3 lights indicate 41-60%, and 4 lights indicate that you have 61-100% battery power. Our Solar String Lights also function this way, however, the Battery Level Indicator button is on the side of the product and the light circles are on the base.
Luci Explore and the Luci Solar Bike Light Set have an automatic Battery Level Indicator. In the middle of the power button is a light that shines either red, amber, or green when the light is turned on. Green indicates that the product has 61-100% power remaining, amber indicates 21-60%, and red indicates that there is 0-20% power remaining.
Absolutely! All of our products are completely rechargeable and have up to >3000 cycle life. Basically, they will last for years!
To charge your light via USB, insert the USB cord provided into the USB port on the base panel, and then insert the other end into a USB outlet. Ensure both ends are firmly in position and check that the Battery Level Indicator lights are flashing - this means that the light is charging.
Speed! Charging via USB is ~6x faster than via solar due to the input power. Whether charging via solar or USB however, the outcome remains the same - a full battery charge. Our advice is to charge via solar for a natural source of power, but if you’re in a pinch, charge via USB.
No activation needed. Simply place the light in direct sunlight with the solar side up, and the sun’s rays will do the rest.
Depending on the model, if your light is fully charged and not in use, it should retain the charge for ~3 years. An unused light will only lose ~3% battery per month. We specifically built these lights to be reliable and ready for whenever you need them!
We recommend charging your light every 6 months or so, even when you aren’t using it. This way your light will have a near capacity charge when you need it.
No, our products can withstand temperatures up to 122ºF (50°C), and getting a continuous solar charge won’t affect the battery in a meaningful way. The battery is protected from overheating and overcharging. Just make sure your light is deflated if leaving out for an extended period in extreme heat as it can expand and warp slightly.
Yes! Our products can retain a full charge for up to 3 years. We recommend charging your light every 6 months or so, even when you aren’t using it. That way, you’ll ensure it’s always ready to go when you need it.
We advise against charging on a car dashboard. On a hot summer day, your car dashboard can reach temperatures of up to 160ºF (71°C) which exceeds the temperature limit of our products - 122°F (50°C).
Luci charges via the red and violet frequencies of visible light. Very hot objects like the sun generate significant red and violet frequencies. Your ordinary indoor fluorescent or incandescent lights aren’t quite as hot as the sun, so they emit a tiny fraction of that UV. We recommend you go straight to the source and put your Luci directly in the sunlight from a windowsill or, for the best results, outside! Luci is durable and completely waterproof.
Our small solar panels basically work in the same way as the ones that you see installed on top of homes. When sunlight hits the solar panel, photons create an electric field in the panel. This electric field is then channeled via thin metallic strips and stored in the internal rechargeable battery used to power your Luci!
A single charge on our products range from 8-50 hours depending on the model. Please see the individual product section below for full information.
Nope, never. Not unless they are somehow damaged of course. But fear not, we’ve designed and manufactured our products so that you would have to go out of your way to get in and damage the LEDs!
So durable that you can hit it with a stick, kick it, throw it, even stand on it (providing you weigh less than ~150 lbs). Our products are built to last and designed to take anything life throws at it. All of our inflatable lights can withstand up to 150 lbs of pressure. Yes, really! Our non-inflatables are just as sturdy, but we don’t recommend throwing those around as much as they are prone to more aesthetic damages. So to sum up, they’re pretty durable to say the least!
Yes! In fact, our products love being outside in the open. All Luci products are durable and completely waterproof or water resistant (see product specs for waterproof rating). This means you don’t need to go running to bring them in when it rains. Luci: 1, laundry: 0.
Our products are able to operate under very high and low temperatures. However, they have an operating temperature of 15ºF – 122°F (-10ºC – 50°C). Exposing your Luci to temperatures outside of the standard operating temperatures puts your product at risk of damage.
Our products are durable and waterproof, meaning they can withstand exposure to weather conditions like humidity, high pressure, wind, and rainfall.
Yes, our products love making a splash! Every Luci is completely waterproof (or water resistant), some submersible and some even float. Our inflatables, in particular, take like a duck to water. You can swim with them in the pool, kayak and paddle board with them, take them in the bathtub, and even to the beach!
Yes, all of our products are perfectly safe. Our internal batteries are protected from overheating and overcharging, as well as overcurrent and short circuit protection.
When MPOWERD started back in 2012, the first Luci was designed primarily for use in disaster relief situations, including flooding and tsunamis. We wanted the product to be lightweight, solar powered, and to withstand extreme weather situations; so an inflatable light worked perfectly! From there, we created different versions of Luci to cater to different consumer needs, which is why you see varying versions of our inflatable lights.
Our inflatable lights can work for any purpose. In order to choose which light is best for you, consider which features are most important. Do you need an adjustable strap for hanging? Do you prefer color or white light? Which is more important: size or battery life?
A defining question is also what the main purpose of the light is. If you’re looking for an emergency light, we would recommend Luci EMRG, as it acts as a flashlight, has a red mode for gaining attention (if you broke down for example), and has an S.O.S. mode. It’s also smaller so it's easier to fit into a “Go Bag”. If you’re camping, we would recommend Luci Outdoor 2.0 or Luci Original, as they are super bright, last for hours on a single charge, and have an adjustable base strap. We also recommend Luci Lux for a softer light. This is a great light to read by whether at home or in a tent! Our colored lights are a great way to create a mood and add some fun to your space. Luci Candle is a great light to relax by, with the added peace of mind that a flameless flicker doesn’t pose any danger.
Whichever you end up choosing, we’re confident that you’ve made the right choice!
Let us start by saying that we LOVE color, so both are great in our humble opinion! But back to your question. The key differences between the two are that Luci Color has a sparkle finish and more vibrant, bold colors, whereas Luci Essence has a matte finish with more muted and softer colors. The choice is yours...
These two lights have evolved over time to cater to both the campers out there, and also the DIY-ers. The differences between the two are slight, but can help to serve a more specific purpose if needed. Luci Outdoor 2.0 is slightly brighter than Luci Original (75 vs 65 lumens), and Outdoor 2.0 has a cool white light, whereas Luci Original has a warm white light. The differences are subtle, but the choice is yours...
All of our lights are perfectly fine to read by, but we have to play favorites and say that Luci Lux is the best reading light! The warm light emitting through the matte finish provides a great soft light that doesn’t make the pages glaringly white. One of the colors on Luci Essence can also provide a nice reading light too. Happy reading!
Yes, all of our Inflatable Lanterns have a 2-second quick shut off. And if you’re new to our products and terminology, the 2-second quick shut off does exactly what it sounds like. Instead of clicking through the modes until you get to the power off mode, you can simply hold down the power button for 2 seconds and the light will power off.
Not necessarily. The valve needs to be closed in order to contain the air and not deflate, but there’s no real functional reason the valve needs to be pushed into the unit after securing. However, we do recommend pushing the valve into the unit. This way, if you place the light upside down it will lay flat. It also allows the light to look more sleek and symmetrical - our Creative team will love you for pushing the valve in!
A single charge on our Inflatable Lights range from 8-24 hours depending on the model. Outdoor 2.0, Original, and Lux last 24 hours on a single charge. Color and Color Essence last 8 hours, Candle lasts 18 hours, and EMRG lasts 7 hours on a single charge.
You can find the full specs for each product on their respective product pages. Underneath the product description at the top of the page is an expandable “TECH SPECS” bar. Click on this to reveal the full specs of the product.
Both of these lights were designed and built for adventure, so whichever you choose for your activities we’re confident you will love it! The key differences between the two are slight, and basically come down to preference. Luci Pro Lux has a matte finish and a warm white light, so it provides a softer glow around your campsite. Luci Pro Outdoor 2.0 on the other hand has a clear finish with a cool white light. This means that it is slightly brighter than Pro Lux - 150 vs 135 lumens. All other features are common across both. The decision is yours...
The Base Light is our biggest light, but is still pretty small. The light is 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter, and when inflated it’s 5.4 inches (13.7 cm) high - so slightly smaller in height than an iPhone X. When deflated the Base Light collapses down to only 1.5 inch (3.8 cm) high!
Absolutely! Our advice is to charge via solar for a natural source of power, but if you’re in a pinch, charge via USB as it’s faster.
To charge your light via USB, insert the USB cord provided into the USB port on the base panel, and then insert the other end into a USB outlet. Ensure both ends are firmly in position and check that the Battery Level Indicator lights are flashing - this means that the light is charging.

To charge your device from the light, you simply insert your charging cable at the USB-A end into the USB port on the light, and then plug the other end of the cable into your phone. Power up!
The cable that we provide with the light is the cable that is needed to charge the light via USB. To charge your devices, you can use any mobile charging USB-A cable.
To charge your devices, you can use any mobile charging cable with a USB-A out.
Yes, we love multitaskers! You should be aware though, that as you’re charging your device, you are depleting the battery in the light. We recommend checking the battery level of the light frequently to make sure that you have enough charge to last throughout your activity.
With 100% battery in the light, you can charge an iPhone X up to 50% charge in ~2 hours. Due to the battery size of different devices, you will get different amounts of charge and different speed times.
Unfortunately, we don’t offer replacement cables. If you’re looking to buy a new one, you will need to get a USB-A to USB-A cable.
Yes, providing it’s a USB-A to USB-A cable, you can use your own.

To charge your light via USB, insert the USB plug at the end of the cord - or “String” - into a USB-A outlet. Ensure it’s firmly in position and check that the Battery Level Indicator lights are flashing - this means that the light is charging.
This is for charging your product via USB. Simply insert the USB plug into a USB-A outlet, and ensure that it is firmly in position. Check that the Battery Level Indicator lights are flashing and you’re all set.
If no connection is detected, try flipping the USB plug the other side up, and ensure that the plug is firmly in position. Also check that the charging device or USB port is not defective.

We are continually improving our products and this is something that shouldn’t happen but if you are struggling to wind the string back without tangling, we have a couple of tips. You should ensure that you are coiling the string tightly towards the center of the product. As you are winding it back in, give a gentle nudge and shuffle to the bulbs if they bunch up. Doing this as you go stops over-bunching and allows you to easily close the light at the end.
Nope, we created a nifty little shortcut to save the extra clicks. Simply hold down the power button for 2 seconds at any time to power off the light.
Our string is durable enough to easily hold the weight of the unit. This means that an effective way of hanging the unit is to wrap the string around something - a branch for example - and then loop the product in on itself around the string. We often hear about other ways in which people have “MacGyvered” their own way of hanging the light. If you come up with one, we’d love to hear about it!
Towards the end of the string (near the USB) is a little spherical part with an inverted hook. This is for the string to slot into. So what you do to tie the string around something is to wrap the string around a branch, for example, and then slot the string into the inverted hook. This will hold it in place for your lights to hang wherever you want them.
Yes, all of our products are waterproof! Due to the mechanisms of the String light however, it isn’t quite as waterproof as it’s inflatable cousins - IPX4 rating vs IP67. It can be left out in the rain but we wouldn’t recommend leaving it out in strong rain storms for extended periods or submerging it in water.
Yes, the bulbs are super durable. This product was built to live outside and take knocks, accidental stomps, or even the occasional cooler drop.

You can download the MPOWERD app from either the App Store or Google Play.
Only one app is needed to control both. When you get to the home screen of the app you will see a little Luci Connect or Explore icon in the top right. Press and hold this icon to toggle between the two products.
Before you can connect and control light from your phone, the physical product must be turned on. This activates Bluetooth® pairing. If light is turned off via physical product, Bluetooth pairing deactivates.
When you open the app for the first time, simply follow the on-screen prompts to connect your Luci. If it isn’t your first time opening the app or if you want to connect another light there are two ways to connect your Luci. The first is to tap on the text below the MPOWERD ring (top center). This will expand the section where you can connect a new Luci by tapping “Add light”. This will then take you through a set of prompts to connect! The additional way to connect your Luci is to tap on the burger menu in the top left of the screen. From here you will tap the “My lights” section, and then tap the “Add light” button at the bottom of the screen. From here you will follow the prompts to connect.
Pro tip: After the first time you turn the light on, you can turn on / off via the app for your convenience!
To activate Bluetooth pairing you will need to press the power button on the product once. If the light is turned off via physical product, Bluetooth pairing deactivates.
Pro tip: Once you connect via Bluetooth, you can eliminate the need to activate Bluetooth pairing by turning your product on / off via the app!
This depends on your surroundings, but generally the range is 20-30 feet.
Yes, if you create a group you can sync up multiple lights and control them at the same time!
You are not able to group a Luci Connect and Luci Explore together due to the fact that they have different capabilities.
To charge your product via USB, insert the USB cord provided into the USB port on the product, and then insert the other end into a USB outlet. Ensure both ends are firmly in position and check that the Battery Level Indicator light is flashing - this means that the light is charging.

Yes, all of our products are waterproof or water resistant! Luci Connect is completely waterproof and submersible. It has an IP67 rating, which means it can be left out in the rain, dunked in the pool, or thrown in the bath. Connect loves making a splash!
Yes, all of our products are waterproof or water resistant! Luci Explore is water resistant with an IPX4 rating - basically meaning that it can get wet but not submerged. Due to the design of Explore, it isn’t quite as waterproof as it’s inflatable cousins - IPX4 rating vs IP67. It can be left out in the rain but we wouldn’t recommend leaving it out in strong rain storms for extended periods or submerging it in water. But if it does start raining during your picnic, grab the chips first, Explore will be fine!
To learn more about the app features you can check out the demo videos or the user manual in the "Resources - How-to’s & User Manuals" section of the FAQs.
Absolutely. Name your Luci and make it truly unique and your own. You can either name the product when you first connect, or go back at a later stage and rename. To rename, simply tap on the burger menu in the top left of the screen and select "My lights". From here you will tap on the product that you want to rename, tap rename, and then rename it! Save your work in the top right of the screen and you've given your Luci a brand new name.
To set a schedule you first swipe through the feature circles until you get to "Schedule". Tap it. The next thing you do is tap the "Add schedule" button at the bottom of the screen. From here you can set the time in which you want the light to turn on and off, choose which colors or mood you want, control the brightness, and decide if you want to repeat this throughout the week. Save your work and you're all set!
Pro tip: You can save multiple schedules and turn them on/off with a simple tap in the same way you set alarms on your phone.
Your circadian rhythm is a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and regulates your sleep-wake cycle. Basically your internal alarm clock.
We definitely don't want you waking up late! That's why we have set up a number of algorithms that will either let you know at the time of setting your alarm that you don't have enough battery life to last until morning, or will send you a push notification later on if you use your Luci after setting the alarm.
We do recommend, however, that if you are using Explore for Wake-up purposes to either keep it plugged in or ensure that you have a full battery. We also recommend that you avoid using either the speaker or the light after setting your Wake-up as both would deplete the battery.
To connect the speaker via Bluetooth, you will need to go to your Bluetooth settings on your device and select Luci Explore. From there you can play music through your preferred streaming service.
Explore can play music via any streaming service. Explore works the same as any other Bluetooth speaker.
You will control the volume of the speaker via your mobile device and not the MPOWERD app.
Yes. Playing music and having the light on simultaneously requires more power, and so will deplete the battery quicker. We encourage people to use both, but just recommend that you keep an eye on the Battery Level Indicator to see how much juice you have left.
To get the optimum sound from your Explore, you should have the light facing upwards with the solar panel facing down.
Unfortunately, no. Your Explore only outputs sound, and doesn't have the capabilities to register sound going in.
That's the Battery Level Indicator! Luci Explore has an automatic Battery Level Indicator that lets you know how much power is left in the product. The light shines either red, amber, or green when the light is turned on. Green indicates that the product has 56-100% power remaining, amber indicates 11-55%, and flashing red indicates that there is 0-10% power remaining. Flashing orange indicates that the product is charging.

Luci Core only charges in, and not out. Meaning that you can charge the light via USB, but you can't charge devices from it. If you're looking for a product that charges devices, you should check out our Mobile Charging Lights, Solar String Lights, or our Smart lights.
This hook is for securing your light once you have adjusted and positioned the arm in place. If you wrap the arm around a pole, for example, you can slot the arm into the hook, and this will fix the light in that position.
Pro tip: It can also act as a nifty little tool to balance the light when set up like a traditional lamp.
Core can be hung in so many ways, we've lost count! The easiest way to hang Core is to wrap it around a pole (or similar), affix it using the hook, and then tilt your light in the direction you need. But it's completely your choice; you can hang your light however you see fit.
To charge your product via USB, insert the USB cord provided into the USB port on the product, and then insert the other end into a USB outlet. Ensure both ends are firmly in position.

Yes, providing it’s the correct cable, you can use your own.
Unfortunately, our Bike Light doesn't have the capabilities to charge devices.
The duration of the Luci Solar Bike Light Set varies between the headlight and taillight as well as light mode. The headlight lasts up to 2 hours on high (100 lumens), 4 hours on medium (50 lumens), 15 hours on low (15 lumens), and 5 hours when flashing (50 lumens). The taillight lasts up to 0.75 hours on high (40 lumens), 1.2 hours on medium (25 lumens), 3 hours on low (5 lumens) and 2 hours when flashing (25 lumens).
On high, the front light beam distance is about 13 meters and covers a 90 degree angle.
Yes! Our Bike Light connects to the mounts via industrial-strength magnets, and was built to withstand extreme vibrations and bumps.
Our adjustable silicone strap allows our bike light to be fixed to any standard handlebar dimension and seat-post. Our straps can comfortably fit around diameters ranging from 25 mm to 32 mm.

Nope. Our Bike Light is extremely easy to install with absolutely no toolkit needed!
Our Solar Bike Light has a built-in battery level indicator on the power button so you’ll always know how much charge you have left.
When the light in the middle of the power button is green, it means that you have 56-100% power left. Yellow indicates that you have 11-55% power left, and red means that you have less than 10% remaining.
With no toolkit necessary to install either the headlight or taillight, the mounts can be easily removed and re-installed as often as you like.
You can either leave the mount in place, or remove it after your ride - it's completely up to you. With no toolkit necessary to install either the headlight or taillight, the mounts can be easily removed and re-installed as often as you like.
However, since it's easy to take off, if you are leaving your bike somewhere in public we would recommend removing it to avoid it being stolen.

STEM stands for Science, Tech, Engineering, and Math. It's a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in these four specific disciplines in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.
We believe that the future is in renewable energy, and that it's our job to educate and inspire the future leaders of the power and potential of clean energy. Our STEM kit teaches kids hands-on how to apply scientific concepts in real life, all while building their very own customizable solar light!
We do! We created our very own STEM-focused curriculum based around solar and clean energy. In collaboration with MSU Denver we developed a base curriculum that can be applied to K-12 classrooms. We're excited to continue to push and take our education channel to the next level!
For more information on the curriculum, reach out to community@mpowerd.com.
Our Solar Light Kit is designed for ages 7+.
Ah, now that would be telling...
Ok, ok, we'll give you a bit more information. Our Solar Light Kit is modular, and comes with everything you need to build your very own Luci. There are three modular disks - the solar panel, battery, and light board. Connect these together via various cables, insert the LED bulbs, and voila, you've built your own solar light!
