Mr. Sperry is a perceptive and accomplished C-level leader with 30 years of broad-ranging, global experience in the industrial and energy (clean tech) sectors. He has an extensive background in both startup and Fortune 50 environments with expertise in strategy, marketing and sales, mergers and acquisitions and securing private and public sector funding. Mark is the President and CEO of Sperry Energy, a strategic advisory services company and a founder and Managing Member of Combined Energies; a New York State startup focused on the commercialization of fuel cell systems and related technologies.
From 2010 – 2014, Mr. Sperry was President and CEO of H2Pump, a NY based startup that provided hydrogen recycling services to industrial customers. As Chief Executive, Mr. Sperry oversaw all aspects of the business including securing financing for ongoing operations.
Mr. Sperry joined H2Pump from Plug Power, where he held the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager of Plug Power’s Continuous Power Division. Mr. Sperry joined Plug Power in May of 2000 as The Company’s Chief Marketing Officer and was appointed to the position of Vice President of Marketing and Strategy in 2006. During his tenure at Plug Power, Mr. Sperry oversaw the acquisition and integration of the company’s operations in Vancouver, BC, focused on the development of fuel cell solutions for industrial vehicles. Additionally, Mr. Sperry designed, built and managed the Company’s program management, sales and customer operations organizations and was instrumental in securing over $400 million in capital for the Plug Power’s ongoing research and development activities.
Prior to joining Plug Power, Mr. Sperry spent 15 years at Xerox Corporation, where he served as Vice President and General Manager for the Production Color Business within the North American Solutions Group. While at Xerox, he also held a wide range of positions spanning finance, operations, marketing and strategy.
Mr. Sperry currently serves on the board of directors of MPOWERD, Tire Conversion Technologies, Molecular Glasses and is Vice-President of the Board of Directors of Proctor’s Theatre. He previously served on the boards of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and GE Fuel Cell Systems, a joint venture established to market and sell Plug Power’s products on a global basis. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from Dickinson College and a Master of Business Administration degree from Syracuse University.
